Why hire a family photographer?

Why pay for a professional photographer when you can take as many photos and record as many videos as you want, with your phone, right? While phone snaps are wonderful memoirs to mundane happy moments, they don’t include one very important element - YOU. You are not in the picture, having fun with your lovely family. A professional photographer can capture your family’s legacy as a whole. They are the photos that you’ll want to print and hang all around your house.

What should we wear?

I'll be asking you to move around, sit on the ground and have fun during your session, so it's important that you wear an outfit that you feel comfortable in. Earthy neutral colours always photograph beautifully and are timeless (think brown/tan/white/cream/olive/rust etc) but the main things to remember are to dress for the same season (not having one person in a summer dress and one in a knitted cardigan for example), no distracting logos (especially on boys/mens shirts) and that busy patterns can be distracting. I will always touch base with you when you book the session to give you some handy hints and tips on putting together the perfect wardrobe that will allow your photos to shine!

you'll love the experience as much as the end result

My approach to photography is very laidback and natural. While we will still capture several formal, posed portraits, (your grandparents will love those ones!) I also want to focus on the essence of YOU. My goal is to allow your photos to show your personality and quirks, and to portray your unique dynamic.

I want to show the real, raw and imperfectly perfect moments, because they are the ones that matter the most. These are the moments you’ll cherish the most years from now.

Sessions with kids

There's no doubt about it. If you've booked a session with your children - you'll be nervous.

And that's completely okay! I get it, you booked this session months in advance, wanting the ideal images that would commemorate this stage of your lives, and you feel the pressure to have everything go perfectly.

But as we all know, kids are their own little people, with plans, ideas and moods of their own.

Relax and remember - it's not your job when to tell your kids to smile, sit straight, or stay put - it's mine. You're there to take part in a photoshoot, just as much as they are and to create beautiful memories with them.

I will make sure to talk to your children, make them laugh and guide your family as we move through the session.

I've been here before and I know what to do. All you have to do is show up and I will take care of the rest. So ease your mind, you're not alone - we're in this together.

Lifestyle Newborn Sessions

My newborn sessions are held in your own home and are heavily lifestyle based. You can expect lots of baby in the arms of mum and dad, and snuggles on the master bed, as well as utlising the nursery if you have one set up.

I will give gentle posing advice throughout the session but my goal is to capture all of the sweet natural moments as you enjoy and breathe in your beautiful new addition. These sessions are designed to be low stress and go with the flow.

Siblings are welcome and I do offer one wrapped pose for baby in a nest/bed/basket/heart bowl at the end if you wish.

I usually recommend to use light/white bedding where possible and to dress baby in a well fitting outfit. Comfort is of utmost importance for post partum mums so loose dresses often work beautifully!

Let go of all expectations

Letting go will take some pressure off and help you relax and enjoy this occasion. Remember - the perfect family portrait may be different than the one you have in your mind! Relax & have fun.

why so serious?

Remember to be silly, play, laugh and let go. Make your family photo session a fun event, something to look forward to. I love to see you interacting with your kids or partner as you normally do!

focus on yourself

It’s a common mistake (especially for us mumma's) to focus on getting everyone else looking perfect for the shot. All you need to do is put your best face forward and leave the nitty gritty to me.

keep it moving

Moving between shots is actually the best way to create authentic and candid images that you are sure to love.
